Situated on one of the most inviting stretches of
the Maine Coast , the Wawenock COTTAGE is nestled on a wooded acre, with
spectacular views of BLUE HILL Bay and beyond. The front yard is a grassy
slope that reaches out to meet the protected waters of the Atlantic Ocean
. It ends in a short stairway to a bouldered promontory with private
beach and cove, perfect for launching kayaks, having a clambake, or just
exploring.
The historic cottage, built circa 1896, retains much of its original charm, with a huge brick fireplace, FOUR BEDROOMS UPSTAIRS, and a small but fully equipped kitchen. Newer additions are central heating, a one-half bath upstairs, (plus a full bath downstairs), and a generous deck, complete with rocking chairs.
Dine at the Lookout Inn, a five minute walk through the woods, or take a seven minute drive to Brooklin to sample the General Store, and the Blue Moon Cafe. Elegant dining, shopping, and antiquing are also available in the quaint town of Blue Hill, about fifteen miles north of the WAWENOCK, through some of the prettiest scenery anywhere. Acadia National Park and the charming town of Bar Harbor are a must to see, and are located about an hour north of THE COTTAGE; while Camden and Belfast are an equal drive south along the coast.
The Maine experience offers hiking, kayaking, sailing,
reading, exploring on foot and by car, or just relaxing in a coastal paradise.
A croquet set is available for the sports-minded; but sorry, no T.V. The
Wawenock rents for $1000 per week during July through August, and a two-week
minimum is encouraged. It is also available off-season at reduced rates. For
